What's new
Our biggest news is that Outside Magazine included our "The 3 Jewels of Aysen" trip as one of "The Worlds 30 Greatest Trips. Ever". Additionally we were nominated as the "Outside Trip of the Year 2007" for South America.

We obviously are very proud of that and owe big thanks to all of you who have contributed to making those trips so good over the last 3 years. A special thank you is also due to Stacey Skole who provided the photograph in Outside. The photo was taken in March 2006 on day 2 of the Aysen Glacier Trail, hiking up the Soler valley.

The rio Baker will be part of a feature in Outside in the next couple of months when they publish a report on the threats to the Aysén region by 2 massive hydro - electric projects. Check this out on the link from the home page.

On the Aysen Glacier Trail, we recently broke the 100 mark with a total of 121 to date, Among many special moments the season was marked by the following events;

The first Belgium group and also the second complete family.

Our first complete Spanish group hiked around in great style, doing lots of extra side hikes and are the first group to have been cut off by the rio Claro on their way down the Colonia valley! A period of rain followed by some excessive heat burnt off the remaining snow and blew out the Claro to about 3 times its normal volume. After a 6 hour wait and a lot of Sat. phone time we got an inflatable kayak and horses into them and by 3am of the next day they were back on schedule in Cochrane.

Bernhard Starkmann and Patricia will be the first clients to hike the trail and then go right into a 10 day ride from Cochrane to O`Higgins with 3 more friends, definitely one of our longer and more challenging trips.

Yaoni Arratia made a fast descent of the Baker with photographer, Carlos Noriega. They managed to make the most of some excellent weather days to get some unique photographs for a book that Carlos is preparing on the river and life along it`s banks.

The Northern Ice Cap.

A huge challenge was undertaken in November by John and Sarah Theakston with Will Hillary who, with a thirst for more after the trail and some exploring in the Soler in previous years attempted a complete crossing of the ice cap from the Soler valley to San Rafael. They got hammered by weather and were forced to turn back with several hairy "wind moments" on the way down.

At the same time an old friend of the company, Brian Mohr, along with Emily and friends were skiing in the Soler (or rather above it) and also in Chacabuco and Cerro Castillo.

They will be showing slides of their trip in various locations - check them out at www.emberphoto.com
